If you are someone that loves supporting local business or just someone that loves doing your shopping at an actual store, do I have the perfect place for you. Once Upon a Time is a children’s book store that is equal parts adorable, well-stocked and family friendly.

What works:

  • They have such a fantastic variety of books. If you feel overwhelmed, don’t worry they also have knowledgeable and helpful staff.
  • It’s organized in a way that helps you find the books for the right age.
  • There are also toys and different materials that are thoughtfully curated so you know you are getting something high quality that will last.
  • They have an awesome collection of puppets.
  • They have a little barn that my toddler kept crawling into complete with some stuffed toys, so he delighted himself while I did some shopping.

What could use improvement:

Parking was a bit of a hassle the day I went but that was partially because the meter only accepted coins and not cards. Not sure if all of downtown is like that or if I just got unlucky. If you don’t mind walking a bit farther there is a parking lot on the other side of the block that is giant and free for three hours.

What I love:

Everything! I have a Masters of Education with an emphasis in children’s literature and I hold bookstores to a very high standard. This is one that I am happy to recommend with no reservations.
