When I told people we were moving to the east side of LA, I was kind of surprised by how many people would tell me to go to the Americana. I’m not a huge shopper, so it was a bit confusing. After having learned about some of their family offerings though, I finally understand that they have a lot going on during the week.

The thing I am focusing on today is the thing that makes my child squeal with glee and that is the trolley. If your kid is a Daniel Tiger fan or just a child that loves different forms of transportation, this one is for you.

The trolley is an actual working trolley designed by a former imagineer, so that’s why it gives off those Disney vibes, and it’s free. Here is what you need to know:

It will take you from one side of the Americana to the other, so it lasts about three minutes. After it’s done it takes a break so you might just want to get off and walk around before taking it back to the other side.

I had my stroller with me (which you can’t bring on with you) so I was trying to figure out how to get my kid on the Trolley and not possibly lose my stroller. The conductor showed me where to park my stroller and showed me the camera that is keeping an eye on it so that “my stroller would be there when I got back” as he so kindly put it.

My child loves the trolley except when we’ve gone on weekends. It can get really busy and people have a tendency to squeeze in sometimes, so if you have a child that is sensitive to not having enough space, I recommend waiting until it’s less busy. When we go during the week we often have the whole row to ourselves.

The Trolley hours are:

Sunday & Monday: 2 PM – 6:45 PM
Tuesday: 12 PM – 6:45 PM
Wednesday & Thursday: 2 PM – 6:45 PM
Friday & Saturday: 2 PM – 7:45 PM

But, every day, the trolley takes a brake to recharge from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM.
