In searching for a dance class that would work for my toddler’s sleep schedule, I had a friend recommend Bloom’s family dance class. At first it sounded a little too much for me, but I signed us up and put on some flexible clothing and went to check it out.
We ended up loving it and now I tell people all about it and why I love it, so here I am sharing with you.
This is definitely a class where they encourage the adults to participate, but it’s not required. You are asked to stay in the room, but some parents kind of sway or clap while their kids do the main dancing and that is accepted and welcomed. I wear my comfy clothes and fully dance with my kiddo for most of the class. I find it really fun and while it’s not exactly a work out, it does get my body moving and my son and I have fun.
His favorite part is the obstacle course at the end that is set up differently each week. This is the part where I mainly just watch him and let him do his thing exploring different areas. It’s also the part where the photos I included are from since during the rest of it there were more children and I wanted to respect their privacy.
The thing that I appreciate most about it is that it feels like a good combination of doing things together and preparing him for the next level of dance class that he would take on his own. He is still too young to just be dropped off at a class and be expected to follow along, so this helps him learn what a dance class will be like and get used to the environment and teachers.
As has always been my experience at Bloom, I love our teacher. I find her so knowledgeable, fun and engaged in her teaching. We’ve been doing this class for a few months now and as he is starting to age out she talked to me about what else he had going on and if I wanted to transition him and what that might look like. It felt so good to know that she was making sure he wasn’t being too overloaded rather than just trying to sell more classes.
All in all, it’s a win of a class and I definitely recommend it. It’s for children 18 months to 3 years and meets once a week, either Tuesday or Sunday morning or Wednesday afternoon.
