There are many things to enjoy at Brookside park in Pasadena: its proximity to Kidspace, the big parking lot, its shaded picnic areas. But, my favorite thing has to be the area known as Reese’s Retreat playground. Just park by the aquatic center at the Rose Bowl, walk down the middle path and you will find it right behind the pool areas.

What makes this park so special? Well, it has a pirate-themed play structure that was especially designed to be inclusive of children of all abilities so that everyone can partake in the fun. The main structure looks like a giant ship and has ramps with room that would easily fit a wheelchair. If that wasn’t enough, it has a sand pit with a structure that has water coming out of it at a slow trickle, so your child can play with just a little bit of water. Of course my children really commit and keep working in that area until they are completely soaked, so you may want to bring an extra change of clothes.

The only time we avoid it is on the second Sunday of the month since the Rose Bowl flea market makes it hard to park.
